About Me

I'm Rima.  I'm a city girl form Tokyo ( NY in later years) living in beautiful appalachian country with my husband and daughter who is approching her teens.

I've always love to draw and sew ever since I was a child.  Growing up in the family consisted of photographer, artists, crafters, creating something by myself has been second nature.

I make costumes for dance.  Especially ballet.
I love working with choreographers to design the costumes together.  I love working with tulle, my favorite fabric.  Just gathering tulle makes me happy.  It is challenging and fun for me to make sure the costumes work with the dancer's movement and individual body shapes.
It's so different from the clothing we wear daily, which my original education of fashion design was for.

I made costumes for companies and studios around Fairfield County, CT.
I also was privileged to teach children and create costumes with them for ABT's Make A Ballet program.
My work was published in Dancer's Book of Ballet Craft.

"Frills and Sprinkles" is a name for my personal blog and my store on Etsy.  I picked this name because I cherish frills on a dress, sprinkles on a cup cake.  They make me happy.  It sounds like frivolous things but that kind of details could change how people feel.  I'd love to create something that makes people feel a little more special and makes them smile...  just like frills and sprinkles.

This bog is to document the costumes that I made.  All the costumes and headpieces were designed and constructed by myself except for the refurbished old costumes.  Please read the descriptions under each costumes.
