Ballet Themed Craft

For young kid's ballet class, camp or ballet birthday party needs craft time.  But instead of having them just color a printed out ballerina picture, I suggest craft classes based on a prop or a costume from ballet.
This gives a chance to talk about the particular ballet.  I would bring in lots of photos of the production from different companies which could be found on line and printed out before the class.
Using the pictures, I would go over the libretto because some young girls are only exposed to Disney's version of Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty.  But the synopsis for the ballets are so different from Disney movies.
Then I focus on one thing...  could be a crown, could be a wand, could be a wings.  Then we make them together.  After the project is done, everybody can dance together!
I think it's really important to be familiar with different titles for ballet even they are young.   This gives them chance to have a fun doing arts and crafts, yet could be educational.
